Frequently Asked Questions

About Hillside

What is Hillside Academy PSP?

Hillside Academy PSP is a private school satellite program designed to support homeschooling families. We take care of the official side of homeschooling—filing with the state, maintaining records, and providing transcripts and report cards—so you can focus on teaching your children. Our heart is to come alongside you with guidance, support, and community.

No, Hillside is not a brick and mortar school. We are a homeschool program, which means your child learns at home under your direction. While we may offer optional in-person opportunities, your home remains your child’s primary classroom.

You are. As a homeschooling parent, you choose the curriculum, set the pace, and guide your child’s education. We support you along the way, but you remain the primary teacher.

We serve families from kindergarten through high school, supporting each stage of your child’s educational journey.

How It Works

What is a PSP (Private School Satellite Program)?

A PSP is a private school that supports homeschoolers. Instead of filing independently with the state, you enroll under our private school. We handle the legal and administrative requirements, provide structure and accountability, and offer support—while you maintain full freedom in how you homeschool.

It means your child is officially enrolled at Hillside as a private school student. We maintain required records and documentation, making your homeschool legally established through our program.

No. Because Hillside files as a private school, you do not need to file your own Private School Affidavit (PSA). We take care of that for you.

No. Students enrolled with Hillside cannot be simultaneously enrolled in a charter or public school. As your child’s private school, Hillside is their sole school of record.

High School

Do you provide transcripts and track high school credits?

Yes. Hillside maintains official records for your student, including tracking credits and providing transcripts. We take care to ensure everything is organized and documented clearly with your input, so you can move forward with confidence during the high school years.

We come alongside you as you navigate high school with guidance and encouragement. This may include help with course planning, mapping out a four-year high school plan, tracking progress toward graduation, and answering questions as they come up.

While you remain in the lead as your child’s teacher, you won’t be figuring it all out alone—we’re here to support you each step of the way.

Yes. Homeschooling through high school can be a strong and flexible path that prepares students well for college, trade programs, or other opportunities. With thoughtful planning and consistent records, students can confidently pursue the path that fits them best.

Many families also choose to incorporate opportunities like dual enrollment at local colleges, allowing students to earn college credit while still in high school. We are happy to support and encourage families who choose this path.

For many families, it is not only a good option—it’s a meaningful and effective one. High school at home allows for flexibility, deeper learning, and the ability to tailor education to your student’s strengths, interests, and goals. With the right support and planning, it can be a rich and rewarding experience.

Flexibility and Support

Do you require a specific curriculum, or can I choose my own?

You are free to choose the curriculum that best fits your child and your family. We do not require a specific program. If you’d like guidance or recommendations, we’re here to help.

We provide guidance, record-keeping, and encouragement throughout the year. This includes help with planning, answering questions, reviewing records, and offering insight when you need it. Our goal is to support you without taking away your freedom to homeschool in a way that works best for your family.

Community and Extracurricular

Do you offer in-person classes?

Hillside does not currently offer in-person classes directly. However, we are grateful to work closely with Joobilo Academic Community, a wonderful local resource where many of our families enjoy taking in-person classes.

Hillside offers optional in-person gatherings throughout the year to help families connect and build community. These are relaxed, welcoming opportunities to spend time together, but participation is always optional.

We are also exploring the possibility of offering sports in the future. If this is something your family would be interested in, we would love to hear from you—please feel free to reach out by email and let us know.

Enrollment

How do I enroll and what happens next?

Enrollment is simple. Once you submit your application, we will review it and guide you through the next steps. After enrollment is complete, you’ll receive everything you need to get started, and we’ll be here to support you as you begin your year with Hillside.
